Music Made The Texas Way
The New CD Project

Here it is the new page for everything related to our new CD project, one day it will have a name, for now, it is just the new CD Project.

My goal here is to have a place where we can all keep up with where the project is at currently and what needs to happen next.
The Songs...
This is the current state of our songs. Please note, two are not here yet, Patriot Road (Kevin) and Red, White, Blue. Notes are current under each song. Also, the graphic will tell you if there has been an update to a particular song. Scroll Down for the quiz...
This page is for
BAND MEMBERS EYES ONLY.
Vacation Notes: This is as close as it may every be, but keep in mind our goal is to re-record every song for continuity. However, this one is pretty polished already.
This is a simple scratch, though the band has been working on it to get the feel for it.
Your input and timely responses are crucial to our success, so please stay on top of your "parts" and be timely in answering questions, don't make me track you down, pretty please. And for God's sake, let's have some good fun while putting out the best CD we can.
This is one the band should remember, Basic scratch of the track with Dennis singing, unfortunately.
This is an original from a while back from Dennis, This is Jake singing. Just a simple scratch.
Not much to say about this because we have all heard it for the past month.
So this is just a guitar track, words are written, and you can expect an update to this one soon.
Again, this is an oldie that we just reworked. Band once played it long ago, never been on a real record.
More work needed but you can get the idea from this scratch.
Once again, close to how we want it, I know you have heard it, but here it is again.
This needs lyrics, a really good piece of music from Alan that needs work.
A re-scratch of this, changes were made to reduce time, those changes are in the lead sections.
Not a scratch, but was asked to be included in this list.
A simple scratch so you can get the idea.
A simple scratch, but you'll get the point.
A simple scratch so you can get the idea.
A simple scratch, but you'll get the point.
This is not all the songs we have nor do I expect us to stop writing songs, there are no bad songs, just songs that need more work than others with that said I need to know...

A couple of points of interest from these results and the first is we have 11 Songs that received votes, that is a CD right there!

Now keep in mind we have several unfinished songs on the master list of 18, but mow we have a good look at where we are at the moment. With only 7 songs not receiving a vote, that is pretty impressive, but have no fear, I bet this list changes several more times as the process continues.

So here is what is next...
We need to create scratch tracks, to the click track of all 18 songs. Just guitar and vocals which
means I need Kevin and Dylan over the next two weeks to help me get this done. We have a couple of songs already in that condition, but for the next vote, we need to get this step done.

I will be looking at a calendar in a few minutes to try an outline a schedule. We should be able to get it all done in 4 sessions at about 6 hours each or 6 sessions at 4 hours each.

We also need a new binder that contains the lyrics and chords as the songs are to be played, this will happen during the scratch track process. Every band member will have a "book" that I'm making you, so keep your book close at hand and have it for your sessions.
Funding This Project...
Currently, we have what we need to continue moving forward, but I wanted to provide you with an outline of how this all works, timeline, pricing, etc. All of this is subject to change, so don't get locked into this, but I hope this helps.
If we need to talk about an aspect of the project, we should do that, always.
After a bit of debate, it appears we have decided our recording studio is the best place to do this record. With that said I want to leave a couple of options on the table:
-
Mixing: we may decide if we can find a good place and the right price to have the CD's final mix done elsewhere.
-
Mastering: We will need to use another studio for this and we have Dustin's guy who does a great job @ $60.00 a song ($660.00 for the 11 songs.)
-
Cover Song: If we decide to use a cover song on the CD, that is going to be one of the greatest debates of the CD, I promise, so we will get to that later.
Now:
-
Scratch up the two missing songs.
-
Get Dylan's voice on all the scratch tracks, even if its just guitar and Dylan.
-
Rework a few of the songs that need more attention and attempt to get all the songs trimmed to a more complete idea.
Cost: $0
Cost: $1400
Next:
-
Pick 10 songs and pull the trigger on the list.
-
Re-Scratch to a click and edit the Guitar
-
Buy drum mics. Work Drums
